The Rivalry Is Dead: Jay Williams Looked America In The Eye On National TV And Proudly Announced He'd Go To UNC If He Was Playing Today

I, like many people, declared the UNC/Duke rivalry dead when UNC sent K to the retirement home (his office, where he can still pull all the strings). But this? This is just confirmation that there is no hatred, there is no loyalty, that Duke/UNC simply doesn't matter as much anymore. Jay Williams is an all-time great. As much as I hate him, Duke and everything about the whole thing the dude was fucking awesome. I'm not really breaking news here, he won NPOY.

You simply can't say you'd go to UNC. Lie. Hell, we lie about everything - height, girth, achievements, having hair. It doesn't matter. It's in our nature to simply lie about shit. Why wouldn't you do it here? You could say Kansas, Kentucky, Georgetown again, Alabama, Auburn, any team that plays fast. You played at Duke, you can't say UNC. There are still rules in society and there are for sure rules in college basketball - even if UNC gets by because Dean Smith is a smooth talker and they find loopholes. You for sure can't double down and claim you kept it 100 and that makes it a-okay.

I've never heard a Xavier player say they'd love to play at Cincinnati or vice versa. That's real hate. I never heard Kentucky guy wanting to play at Louisville, probably because they prefer winning. Same goes for Purdue and Indiana. All the great rivalries, never has a legend went on TV and willingly said hey if it was today, I'd love to play for the program I'm supposed to hate with all my body forever.

There's only one thing to do here. Duke, if they truly care about basketball and truly care about life, have to kick Jay Williams out of their fake brotherhood. Take his banners down, don't let him in the arena, have K come out and be his normal condescending asshole self. Because all this did was confirm, the rivalry is dead.
