The Philadelphia Flyers Have Traded American Hero Cutter Gauthier After He Told The Team He Doesn't Want To Play In Philly

What the actual fuck just happened?

Just a few short days ago, Cutter Gauthier was leading Team USA to a gold medal at the World Juniors. Flyers fans were planning our Stanley Cup parade for the summer of 2027 when Cutter and Matvei Michkov finally took the NHL by storm together. And then tonight--pretty much right after puck drop against the Penguins--this happens.

Are you shitting me? Just like that, the Cutter Gauthier era in Philly is over before it even began. Worst of all, it's over right after the hype was at it's highest. And unfortunately, there's nothing they could really do about it.

I don't want to lash out at a 19-year-old little boy right now. I really don't. Clearly he's absolutely terrified of having to play for Torts. Clearly he's absolutely terrified of having to play in front of a fanbase that'll keep him accountable throughout his career. He'd rather go live on the beach in Anaheim and play in front of a crowd that doesn't even know what time it is. He can dick around with Zegras over there and not have a care in the world for his entire NHL career. Sounds pretty good if ya ask me.

It just sucks that we'll never get a chance to watch Cutter Gauthier and Matvei Michkov play together. Those were two cornerstone studs for this franchise to build themselves around, and now Cutter just bailed because he doesn't like Torts. But Torts is building a culture here that the Flyers can win with regardless of Cutter Gauthier or not. So it's not the end of the world, it just sucks ass.

And on top of everything--Jamie Drysdale is a stud. Sure, he's had some injury trouble already in his career. But he was the 6th overall pick in 2020, a right-handed shot defenseman who can quarterback a powerplay, and has the potential to be a #1 defenseman. Even if he's not a #1, the Flyers already have Travis Sanheim and Cam York as that top pairing for years to come. So the Flyers are loading up the blueline, still have Michkov coming in the pipeline, and also picked up a 2nd round pick they can do something with in the 2025 draft. They had a player who said he wasn't coming to Philly, and they got a couple of really nice pieces back for it. Danny Briere was handed a shit sandwich, and he turned it into an edible meal. I'd say that's great work on his end.

Again, it just sucks that this kid bailed on Philly. The Flyers haven't been good in a while. I get it. They're building something here, and Cutter Gauthier didn't want to put in any work to build with them. We'll have to hate the kid forever, but that's show business, baby.
