Giannis And Wemby Took Turns Throwing Haymakers In A Wild 4th Quarter Of One The Most Entertaining Games Of The NBA Season

Earlier tonight, Wemby caused quite a stir with a couple of monster plays that naturally took over NBA Twitter in real time

As awesome as those moments were, little did we know that things were just getting started. In a game that I'm sure most people figured would be a blowout by the fourth quarter, in reality what we had between the Bucks and Spurs tonight was one of the craziest and most entertaining games of the entire young season.

Perhaps it was due to the Bucks defense being swiss cheese while also being on a back to back, or maybe this was just one of those nights for the Spurs where everything was dropping, but the 29th ranked offense in the NBA had 93 points through three quarters and found themselves in a battle entering the fourth quarter.

The Spurs kicked things off by doing what had worked for them all night. If you want to beat the Bucks, the easiest way to do that is to attack the rim. Make their perimeter defenders guard you and chances are you're going to be able to get to where you wanted to go. If they double you, move the ball and force them to rotate, where chances are they're going to be a step slow. When that happens, drive with force and finish strong at the rim. Like this

Credit tot he Spurs, they kept punching back. Whenever it felt like the Bucks were maybe going to pull away, especially once Dame came in and started getting 4th quarter buckets.

Dame Time is very real, so it was going to require the Spurs to keep finding ways to execute. Luckily, guys like Devin Vassell (34 points) were more than up for the challenge

At this point, this game was well off the rails. Nobody was getting stops, everyone is making back breaking buckets down the stretch, the crowd is going nuts, we're seeing Dunk Contest dunks in a real game, it was as close to basketball nirvana as you could get.

And then things got even better.

Once things moved to the last 5 minutes, the Spurs were finally able to bring Wemby back into the game and be within his minutes restriction. This is where you expect the stars to step up and carry their team over the finish line, and what we got was just that. A Giannis vs Wemby battle for the ages, with both sides throwing haymaker after haymaker for the rest of the game.

There was Giannis' back to back threes which were gigantic makes given the situation and the fact that the Spurs were daring him to shoot

At that point you're probably thinking well if Giannis is going to be cashing threes like this, it's probably a wrap. But you know who didn't hear a bell? Wemby. Right away he immediately cashed a three of his own after blocking Dame at the rim, and we were off

Not to be outdone, on the very next possession Giannis had a response of his own

Would you believe me if I told you we still weren't done? After a brutal Jeremy Sochan missed open corner three, the Spurs now needed a stop to keep their dreams alive. No worries, Wemby will just block Giannis at the rim like he's a child

Unfortunately for the Spurs on the ensuing inbounds pass Tre Jones also missed a wide open corner three from the same exact spot at Sochan and that was that. Giannis and the Bucks survived and the rest of us were treated to one of the best finishes of the year.

Not only was the basketball great, but I can't stress enough how awesome it was to have Kevin Harlan on this call. With all these huge moments, this is the exact game I want Harlan to be working. He's an icon for a reason and he was bringing the heat tonight. Especially on the  late Wemby block on Giannis. I petition that Harlan should be forced to call every Wemby TNT game from here on out. He's perfect for it.

Like pretty much every NBA star who faces Wemby for the first time, Giannis had nothing but respect for a player that is living up to every bit of hype he had and then some

Luckily for us as fans this was only the first of many matchups between these two basketball forces, with this being the worst Wemby will ever be. If things are this good already, I can't wait to see what comes next.
