Shohei Ohtani's Introductory Press Conference Had It All - What He Was Doing While Everyone Was Tracking Flights, Revealing His Dogs Name And Crapping On The Angels And Their Fans.
We finally saw it, Shohei Ohtani in Dodger blue. It's truly a beautiful sight….unless you're an Angels or Blue Jays fan. He took the podium yesterday, put on that #17 jersey and answered the questions we were all wondering. It certainly took me by surprise to hear him address some of these questions they asked. We have never really heard from him before outside of some All-Star Game stuff so it was interesting to hear him kind of break out of his shell. I know the Angels PR team was always VERRRRRRRY protective of him and didn't let him do anything with media guys, I wonder if the Dodgers change that or if it was an Ohtani preference. Regardless, I did not have him frying up the Angels and their fans while on the podium.
Sheeeeeesh! Look at him go. Angels fans are still mourning and he's over here dancing on them. Talking about how blue the crowd was in Angel Stadium is cold blooded. I don't think it's any secret that the Dodgers have fans all over and they travel very well. But hearing him say that is just salt directly into the wounds of Angels fans. I mean he's telling the truth, but it's awfully tough to swallow that if you're a Halo fan. He never really did things like this when he was in red, but now that he's out of the Angels shadow he's letting it fly and that is not something I saw coming.
Now this is what we were all wondering. What the hell was going on with the plane situation this weekend and did Ohtani know? OF COURSE HE KNEW! He's the biggest athlete in the country and the entire sport was watching this one random plane with the dude from Shark Tank on it. Meanwhile he's sitting there probably watching Home Alone with his dog. Feet up on the coffee table, scrolling IG, tossing out likes, on google to find which LA logo he should post to his feed. Meanwhile Toronto had beat reporters saying press conferences were being announced and we all assumed he was headed to America's hat. Whole time he is just sitting there on his couch. Him saying he thought it was "funny" is incredible. I mean absolutely incredible!!!! It's a real life Frank the Tank SVP speech, "HE'S SMILING!!!!!! HE'S LAUGHING!". He could have put out a statement saying he wasn't on the plane. He could have gone on IG and posted a geotag in Cali or something. Nope, he's giggling on his couch while trying to find out what time "The Santa Clause" starts on Freeform. Hilarious to think about that.
The dog. We all wanted to know Ohtani's dog's name. We saw it at his MVP announcement and the rumors were swirling that they wouldn't let the pups name out because it may have had something to do with where he wanted to go next. Now we know why. Decoy!!! The dog's name is Decoy! He threw us off the scent the whole time. The dog, the plane tracking, it was always Decoy. It seems like every move he makes is calculated. He's playing chess with everyone and thinking 3-4 steps ahead.
I like this Ohtani. I like him speaking out about the Dodger fans taking over Angel Stadium. I like him kind of having an edge and throwing shots. Maybe Dodger Shohei is a different animal. Get him out of Vanilla Trout's shadow and he starts to yap a little bit. I think we are in for a treat with Ohtani as a Dodger. Heat Lebron = Dodger Ohtani? Maybe. Now look at this picture of Decoy and tell me how cute he is.
