Right On Cue: There's A Movie Coming Out From Alex Garland Called "Civil War" About The Fall Of The United States Republic

Variety - A24 has released the first trailer for Alex Garland‘s action epic “Civil War,” starring Kirsten Dunst, Wagner Moura, Cailee Spaeny, Stephen McKinley Henderson, Sonoya Mizuno and Nick Offerman.

Set in the near future, the film revolves around the U.S. amid civil war, where government air strikes are used against civilians and journalists are shot on sight in the Capitol. “A race to the White House in a near-future America balanced on the razor’s edge,” the official logline reads.

The trailer opens with scenes of destruction in the U.S., along with news reports about the civil war playing in the background. “19 states have seceded,” one reporter says on the radio.

“Citizens of America, the so-called Western forces of Texas and California have suffered a very great defeat at the hands of the United States military,” Offerman, who portrays the U.S. president, says in the trailer.

“Civil War” is directed and written by Garland. A24 produces alongside Gregory Goodman and DNA’s Andrew Macdonald and Allon Reich. DNA previously teamed with Garland for “Ex Machina,” “Annihilation” and “Men.” Goodman’s past producing credits include “Three Kings,” “8 Mile,” “Captain Phillips” and “22 July.”

“Civil War” hits theaters on April 26. Watch the full trailer below.

Let's fucking go!

I wrote about this yesterday in my blog about "Leave The World Behind", and the strangeness and creepiness of a movie about the fall of America from the inside coming out right now (and being produced by a former President), but this is totally different.

Finally, a movie about a feel good story to bring our entire country together. I think we can all agree there's never been a time since, well, our nation's actual Civil War (1861), where our country has been more divided than it is now. And this looks to be just what the doctor ordered to help fix things.

Leave it to Hollywood to once again bring us all together through art.

And talk about perfect timing.

You might think something depicting an all-too-realistic fall of the United States and homeland war between Texas, Florida, and. (checks notes), California (?),  against the United States government, complete with armed forces dropping bombs and firing missiles at US cities and against US citizens is exactly what not this country needs right now, because it will just further divide us, but you're wrong.

If anybody has a pulse on the American public, and knows not just what we want, but even more so what we need, it's Hollywood.

p.s. - it's good to see Kirsten Dunst is still alive.

p.p.s. - worst US president casting ever?

p.p.p.s. - why does Jesse Plemons always play the most weirdo characters? He's an awesome actor. Give him a normal role for once.

p.p.p.p.s. - on that same leave the world behind blog, commenter @unbanabledanz left a very apropos comment
