THE MAGIC CONTINUES! The Detroit Pistons Have Lost 20 Games In A Row
I keep saying to myself, "No more Pistons blogs." What's the purpose of writing about a team when everything you will you write is negative? But I'm actually grateful for this unit. If you're going to be bad, go all out, and that's exactly what this year's pistons have done. Twenty consecutive losses in the NBA sounds impossible. What is scary is I don't think that this Pistons team is intentionally tanking. Those Sixers teams in the early 2010s, during the "Trust the Process" days, were trying to be bad. But this year was supposed to be the beginning of a new era. This is not what Monty Williams had in mind when the Pistons made him the highest-paid coach in the NBA.
There's one take that I hear fans have about the Detroit Pistons, and that's that they have some good pieces. They just don't have a complete team. I don't agree with that. I think Cade Cunningham is the only piece that's worthwhile. I think there's been a lot of hype surrounding some of these guys, but I don't think they're any good. Jaden Ivy isn't close to a star. Jalen Duren's skill set is limited. Besides that, who is there? People believe there's talent because we were promised talent, but this is not a talented team. If they had any talent at all, they wouldn't lose 20 fucking games in a row.
I feel like I've used up all the bullets in my chamber when talking about this team. They're not going to be sold. It doesn't seem like there will be any shake-up within the front office. They are in the worst place that an organization could be in. Not only are they awful, but they're complacent. One of my favorite quotes from Batman begins when Bruce says, "People need dramatic examples to shake them out of apathy." At this point, bottom out and have bad luck in the lottery again, so you know what it feels like to be this bad and this embarrassing.
What Tom Gores and company have done to this organization is borderline criminal. An entire generation of people don't even know the Pistons are a franchise. This is probably the most relevant they've been in years, and it's in large part due to how shitty they are. I'm fully invested now, though. Give me a 5-77 record. I don't think it's out of the realm of possibility.
