Boo Buie Lives To Kick No. 1 Purdue's Ass

I know there was an important football game tonight, but don't let that distract you from No. 1 Purdue losing. Actually, let me rephrase that. Don't let that distract you from Boo Buie kicking No. 1 Purdue's ass. Again. Same story as last year when he beat them in Evanston, this year he did it with a ho hum 31 points and 9 assists. Not bad. Not bad at all! I actually thought he won the game in regulation with this:

Only to have Purdue send it to OT at the buzzer because Zach Edey is a monster

We'll get to Purdue in a second, but I'm trying to be positive here. This is a Boo Buie blog. Incredible name. Chris Collins was smart because in overtime and really the 2nd half when Northwestern made their comeback, it was simple. Set a screen so Fletcher Loyer would switch onto Buie and get the hell out of the way. Buie cooked Loyer time after time after time. There was no adjustment, no change, no nothing. Hell, Collins didn't even have to worry about it because it just kept working over and over. Old school Packers power sweep.

Now to Purdue. Matt Painter has to change. You're sabotaging the team by playing TKR out there with Edey. Give the man some space to work instead of a non-shooter and non-playmaker. Lance Jones is a guy I really like and he should be out there as much as possible. But Painter never adjusted the defense and if you're smart enough to not play TKR with Edey late in games why waste the first 5 minutes of each half with it?

I also know this is the typical let down spot for Purdue. Hell, it's the let down spot for any team that wins a major MTE. They always lose here - look at Nova earlier in the week after winning Atlantis. But, the whole point of this Purdue team was to prove they weren't the team who lost to FDU. Shit, there were even quotes from Loyer and Edey about how this game was circled for them because of how they lost last year and all that stuff. You had a chance to bury Northwestern and didn't.

But like I said, this is a Boo Buie blog. Dude is good enough to get Northwestern back to the Tournament on his own. He has a decent supporting cast, but he can be a legit All-American. Incredible that Collins could potentially go from hot seat to back-to-back Tournaments, something that Northwestern quite literally doesn't do.
