Mark Cuban Selling The Mavericks For $3.5 Billion While Still Being Able To Run The Team Is A Move Right Out Of The Dave Portnoy Playbook

Hand up, I have no idea who Miriam Adelson is or who the hell their family is, but a quick Google search tells me this is her

and she's worth around $36 billion. I guess she married the dude that started a casino company Las Vegas Sands forever ago and then ran it after he died, ultimately becoming the current 5th richest woman on earth  Not too shabby. I guess when you have that type of cash you can spare a measly $3.5B to buy a basketball team, and I'll admit, this is pretty shocking news. I didn't think Cuban would ever sell the Mavs, but then again when you buy something for $285M and can then turn that same asset into $3.5B, that's a tough thing to turn down.

The fact that Cuban still gets shares of the team while retaining control of the actual basketball stuff? Man, I haven't seen a business deal that sweet since the greatest business deal in the history of business deals

Cuban basically just made $3.5B to keep playing his Franchise Mode in 2K. Admit it, that's pretty sick. All the fun part of being an owner he still gets to do AND he clears a couple billion? That might be a deal too sweet to pass up even if Cuban never thought he'd ever sell the Mavs. First the Shark Tank news and now this, you certainly hope everything is OK and this is just a way for him to cash in on his investment or is Jeff D Lowe maybe onto something?

The other way to maybe look at this is perhaps Cuban knows the Mavs future is cooked. Are Luka's days numbered? It's not like the Mavs stink, they're right there in the race out West with Luka being an MVP candidate. Seems like an odd time to sell especially with Luka not even in his prime yet, but maybe that's looking too far into things. At the end of the day, maybe this was just a chance to make $3.5B.

It really makes you think just how crazy this world can be sometimes. Once upon a time Dave & Co were meeting with Mark Cuban about ultimately investing in the hard dick business

Brutal miss by Mark there. But hey, shit happens. Everything still seemed to work out well for everyone involved.

Now, years later here Cuban is taking a page directly out of Dave's business playbook. Who could have possibly seen that coming 7 years ago? I'm not totally convinced Cuban didn't see what happened with Barstool and kept that in the back of his mind when it came to his own business dealings. I can't ever remember seeing this in the NBA before, and it just so happens to come not too long after Dave basically did the same thing?

Either way, I'd say Cuban's tenure as owner of the Mavs was a smashing success. He won them their only title and built that organization up from the gutter. The Mavs were a joke when he first got there, and he turned that into $3.5B with a title. Sure he probably shouldn't have fumbled the whole Steve Nash situation, but he did pull off the Luka deal.

Now he can just sit back and relax counting his cash and play real life 2K for fun. Not a bad life if you ask me.
