A High School Packing Their Gym And Going Completely BONKERS For E-Sports Is Incredible

DCCHS- Detroit Catholic Central hosted the first-ever high school Esports assembly match against Macomb's Dakota High School, winning four games in a best-out-of-seven match. It has been shared by ESPN, SportsCenter, Whistle Sports and professional influencers, such as Jake Lucky and TJ Hitchings, a senior producer at Barstool Sports.

There is something about packing a high school gym that rules so hard. Doesn't matter what the sport is, everyone coming together to cheer on your friends / classmates for win is amazing. Nothing better than a high school rivalry - hating the crosstown/neighboring high school for being "bad people" when they are almost exactly like you in every way. I graduated high school 1,000 years ago and would still get a good feeling when my high school wins their rivalry game.

So you already know, if I'm in high school, I'm showing up to support my E-Gaming team. I'm not sure if the energy of a full crowd and the entire marching band would help bring a W, but I know nothing about E-Gaming. I feel like it would be a distraction? But, I'm old, and gaming as a sport makes me feel old. In my day, we linked our X-Boxes to play Halo hidden away in our parent's basements. As a little brother who spent his early years sitting and watching my older brother play video games, I don't understand people watching others game on Twitch, but clearly people love it.

If this is how crazy people go for E-Gaming, I definitely understand getting hyped for a competition. One of the things that makes me feel older than dirt is watching my favorite athletes get older and retire. Then one day you realize there is no one on your professional sports team older than you, and the star player is a 23 year old kid. THAT is a cripplingly depressing feeling that I don't know if I'll ever get used to. Luckily Lebron is still playing out of his mind at 38 years old, and 39 year old Nick Folk will be automatic from within 40 yards till he's 80 years old.
