There's No Video Or Photographic Evidence Of Kelly Oubre's Hit & Run Accident And The Conspiracy Theories Are Running WILD

PHILLY - Surveillance footage recovered so far in the alleged hit-and-run that injured 76ers forward Kelly Oubre Jr. shows no evidence that a crash occurred at the Center City intersection where Oubre reported being hit on Saturday night, police said. “The Police Department currently does not have any video or photographic evidence that depicts this collision,” Sgt. Eric Gripp, a department spokesperson, said Wednesday. “We continue to work in hopes of gathering evidence and we encourage anyone who has information to reach out to our crash investigation unit.” Two employees of businesses near the reported crash site told The Inquirer they reviewed roughly two hours of footage from that evening on their work surveillance systems and did not see the crash. They asked to remain anonymous due to the high-profile nature of the case. Gripp emphasized that police have not accused Oubre of anything and the investigation is ongoing. But the lack of immediate visual evidence confirming the crash on a well-trafficked downtown street raises questions about the information Oubre provided to police.

Um...OK?

Look, I'm not saying Kelly Oubre didn't get hit by a car as initially reported. Until there are DEFINITIVE FACTS that prove otherwise, that's what I'm going to believe. Why? Two reasons.

A) This situation SUCKS. I can't imagine being a victim of a hit and run, sustaining pretty shitty injuries, AND have to deal with people saying it's fugazy. That's just messed up on all levels of life.

2) The alternative is so batshit it's hard to even process. Try to think about it. If the new Sixer wasn't involved in a hit and run accident and suffered his injuries via said felony from the motorist, well...

Giphy Images.

It'll be bad. Like, really, really, really bad. I can't even fathom the reasoning to attempt and fake such a high profile accident. The rumors - I repeat, RUMORS - are running wild on Twitter. Shit is being thrown against the wall at all angles with everything from a mental illness breakdown to a domestic violence cover up to Oubre being assaulted by a Pimp, and so on. It's all hearsay, but anything and everything is being thrown out there at the moment, unfortunately.

As for zero video evidence in a highly trafficked and populated area of Center City where there are cameras everywhere…yeah, it's tough. But hopefully it's a case of Occam's razor and simplest explanation is the correct one. Oubre is new to the city and very well could've reported the location wrong.

Also, there were apparently medics at the scene and he was taken to Jefferson Hospital around the corner with injuries consistent with a vehicular strike. Again, until DEFINITIVE FACTS come out proving otherwise, Oubre was the victim of a hit and run accident. The truth is out there. I'm sure there will be more news clarifying the situation soon, whichever way it may lead. It would certainly be nice to have a Sixers season that isn't filled with shitshow drama that's 99.9% off the court. Please. Like, one year. Seriously.

PS - Can't rule out every possibility.
