Scottie Scheffler Adds Another Major Win To His Resume, Takes Down The #1 Pickleball Player In The World
Ben Johns is the best pickleball player on the planet. He's "Tigers Woods in his prime spending 281 consecutive weeks at world number 1" dominant at the sport. The man shows up and wins every tournament he plays in. Singles, men's doubles, mixed doubles, he just wins everything. He's the first male player to reach 100 tournament wins (gold medals), and he probably has like 70 more than the next closest.
Speaking of world number 1 golfers, Scottie Scheffler is also apparently a pickleball sicko. He showed up to play in a celebrity tournament in Dallas before the Pickleball National Championships got going, and got matched against Ben Johns here. A little World No. 1 vs World No. 1 showdown. Now even if he isn't going 100%, nobody beats Ben Johns head-to-head like that unless you're a pickleball addict who has spent a shit ton of time working on their game. You don't just roll out of bed one day and beat Ben Johns in a hands battle. You're out there playing damn near every day to develop that game. Which is why we need to pump the brakes a little here on everyone who thinks that somehow Scottie Scheffler winning a point against Ben Johns takes away from the "credibility" of pickleball.
That would be like saying golf loses all credibility because Steph Curry hit a hole-in-one.
Steph Curry is one of the best basketball players in the world. He also happens to be a nasty golfer because he's a sick athlete. Scottie Scheffler is one of the best golfers in the world. He also happens to be a nasty pickleball player because he's a sick athlete. This is a dude who plays a lot of pickleball. You don't develop a dink game like this unless you're out there every week.
If anything, this helps pickleball's credibility. Scottie Scheffler is a Masters Champion. He's the number 1 golfer in the world. And clearly he's addicted to playing pickleball. Seems like a sport you'd want to give a chance, if you ask me.
