I'll break a hallowed Snake Draft rule right now and tip a draft selction. I don't want to, but I have to. My hands are fucking TIED. I'll cut to the chase:  Chief selected this picture with the 1-1 pick:

While it's an incredible picture and perfectly encapsulates the emotion of finally securing victory in Europe on the heels of securing victory in the Pacific, it's not even the most famous picture of WWII. 

In fact, it could be argued that this picture doesn't even happen without this picture instead:

This is the flag raising of Iwo Jima, a small little volcanic island in the middle of the Pacific. It was arguably the turning point of the war in the Pacific and even if you have just a sliver of WWII knowledge, you've seen this picture…

And that's what makes it not only the most universally recognized picture of not just the entire war, but one of the most recognizable pictures of all time.
