Pete Davidson's Cold Opening On SNL Was Beautifully Done

It's been an awful week watching the news and seeing the horrific images involving attacks from Hamas militants on Israel. For a show like SNL it's tough to navigate through such a horrific event. They are supposed to make us laugh, but laughing during a week like this can be difficult. I assumed they would address the situation, but didn't know exactly how they would.

Being from Staten Island, I am very family with Pete's story about the loss of his father on 9/11.His mother and my father worked together years later for a long period of time. I saw him perform stand up at charity events at 14 years old. His loss was extremely sad, and his father's life should be remembered forever as nothing short of heroic.

The way Pete Davidson tied in his personal connection to a horrific tragedy via a terrorist attack to the events this week was done with class, and should remind us all that unfortunately these events can happen to anyone. It's a sad and tragic reality but one that we live with everyday. Whether it be in our backyard, or across the world, these horrific acts of hate are equally horrific, and need to be stopped.

“Hatred paralyzes life; love releases it. Hatred confuses life; love harmonizes it. Hatred darkens life; love illuminates it.”
― Martin Luther King, Jr.
