Stephen A. Smith Is Off The Hook, Because Kid Cudi Just Threw The Worst First Pitch Of 2023

What the fuck is going on right now? Are they greasing the baseballs or something? Look, I understand that every game is going to feature a ceremonial first pitch, and on a long enough timeline, you’re going to have a few guys who will spike some throws, but this is back-to-back nights in which celebrity has gone out there and made a goddamn fool of themselves.

I like Kid Cudi. I won't act like I'm an expert on his music, but he's put out some good songs. I've seen him act in a few movies like "Don't Look Up" and I thought that he was pretty good, and I know that he's been outspoken about some mental health struggles. He's aces in my book. But he's definitely not an ace on the mound.

As probably the most anxious motherfucker at this company, I understand feeling pressure when you go out there. I understand anxiety. I just don't understand this shit. I think any person who may feel some butterflies when they step on the mound before they throw the first pitch needs to understand that you were significantly better off airmailing that shit than you are spiking it like a football.

While this is the worst first pitch of 2023, I will credit Kid Cudi for one thing: he went all out with the getup. I like the full uniform. I like the high socks. That's commitment to the bit. As cool as he looks, he probably spent more time prepping his getup than he did throwing warm up pitches. Even the mascot couldn't believe it.

Every year, there should be a redemption night in Major League Baseball in which guys who threw awful first pitches are allowed to redeem themselves. Hopefully, next year, Kid Cudi will get another shot. He and 50 Cent have definitely given rappers a bad name regarding first pitches.
