A Portland State Player Had His Ear Ripped Off His Head During Their 74 Point Loss To Oregon

NY Post - One player of the FCS school had his ear ripped off – yes, you read that right – during the beatdown, according to head coach Bruce Barnum.

Here’s Barnum with the grizzly details.

“We’re fine. Knock on wood, we had one guy get his ear ripped off,” Barnum told “The Bald Faced Truth.”

“They sewed it back on, and now they say he has a concussion. So, he’s out. But I think he’s fine. He talked to me today.”

Barnum later clarified the player lost “not the whole ear, but a partial ear detachment.”

“I think it was from when we got his helmet knocked off and I think his ear didn’t come out of his helmet,” Barnum said. “They were sewing him up. I guess that means you have a concussion. And we’re making sure he’s fine, and he’ll sit out this game.”

Spin zone: I only know 2 other people who have lost an ear. Evander Holyfield (Heavyweight Champion of The World) and Vincent Van Gogh (man who overcame a mental disability and posthumously became one of history's greatest artists). So this kid is in great company.

But despite one player becoming the newest member of the prestigious "ear fell of your head" club, I have to chalk up last Saturday as a bad day for Portland State.

Although his Head Coach seems very casual about the whole situation

Hopefully Oregon paid Portland State enough money to beat the shit out of them that they can help this kid out with his medical bills. Or ear therapy. Or whatever you have to do to recover from having an ear re-attached to your head.

Concussion aside, and assuming that this player doesn't have any long term hearing damage, losing your ear in the middle of a football game is a pretty bad ass thing to happen. At minimum it should get you on PMT's Football Guy of The Week list. And nobody fucks with a man who has any sort of dismembered ear situation going on. Everyone just automatically assumes you've been fighting MMA for years, or that you got into a bloody drag-out street fight. If anybody asks you what happens, just hit them with a, "you should see the other guy" then walk away smugly.

Unfortunately the other guy in this situation is a collection of 60+ FBS-Division 1 athletes all of which are bigger, stronger, faster, and have more ears than you. But nobody has to know that.

And in conclusion, as a former hockey player, I'm obligated to remind everybody that had a hockey player lost his ear mid-game, he would have promptly sewn it back on himself and gotten back on the ice the very next shift to score the game winning goal. But I wouldn't expect that type of bravery from a mere tackle football player.
