NHL Team: Pittsburgh Penguins

Conference: Eastern

Division: Metropolitan

2022-23 Recap: The Pens missed the playoffs for the first time since I left the organization back in 2005-06, Crosby's rookie year. A legendary run once they dropped the dead weight.

They brought back Malkin and Letang but just could not win the big games at the end of the season to make the playoffs. Too many games where the D and goaltending did not do their part to win them games. In all areas, the Pens were middle of the road which is not normal for that core.

Did the Chiclets Crew mush them by opening the season in Pittsburgh?

Biggest Loss: Brian DumoulinThe long-time Pens Defenseman fell out of favor with the coaching staff and the Cup Champion moved on to Seattle in Free Agency.

Biggest Addition: Erik Karlsson - 101 points with the Sharks last year was just ridiculous. The PP will be even more dangerous with him running it up top but I think he will help most by getting pucks out of the D-Zone and up to this talented group of forwards. My only question is, will he still be packing Swedish Snus during games when he’s sharing the ice with 87?

2023-24 Outlook: I believe they are playoff-bound and once they get in you can never bet against 87. With the new GM itching to show Toronto he isn't a failure he will do anything to make a run as the clock is ticking for the core. The addition of Reilly Smith gives this team another Cup winner and a Swiss Army Knife that can be used anywhere in the lineup.

Player To Watch: Tristan Jarry - The 28-year-old netminder got his bag this summer and the question isn’t if he is good enough to deserve it, but if he can stay healthy as a #1 for the entire season and playoffs.
