Game Notes Countdown To The NHL - #9 New York Rangers
NHL Team: New York Rangers
Conference: Eastern
Division: Metropolitan
2022-23 Recap: There wasn't a team that went all in more than the Blue Shirts last season. Trading for Kane and Tarasenko down the stretch was a big move for Drury and props for going for it. Their adjustments against the Devils in that series were not good and that game 7 performance was pathetic. 107 points is good but the regular season is a waste for this team, they need to show up in April.
Biggest Loss: Gerard Gallant - The head coach was sent packing after the season and my old friend Peter Laviolette was brought in. Since Peter sent me down on an airplane after scoring the only goal for our team I can not support him so this is a significant loss since the Rangers are no longer an $EBR team.
Here's the snipe for all the doubters out there!!
Biggest Addition: Jonathan Quick - An original "Everybody Rides" member from all the way back in 2004. He had the saying on his helmet as a tribute to the OG Jason Pagni. He is a great locker room guy and helped the Knights goalies deal with the pressure of the playoffs on the way to the Cup last season. He still has plenty of game left and playing for his childhood team will elevate his performance in the crease. Playing alongside his Avon Old Farms brother Nick Bonino will give him some extra jump as well.
2023-24 Outlook: This team is good and will be in the hunt to win that division but again they will be judged in April on their playoff performance. Depending on the draw they must get out of the First Round or heads will roll.
Player To Watch: Blake Wheeler - Longtime Winnipeg Jet comes over on an extremely team-friendly deal, so it will be interesting to see how much ice time he gets with all the stars the Rangers have and how much he can produce. Looks to be fitting in with the team already.
