Deshaun Watson Has Replaced Nick Chubb As Captain Of The Cleveland Browns

So the Browns named their Captains this afternoon, and while all 5 of last year's leaders return to the team this season, only 4 of them held their position. Twitter is currently up in arms that Deshaun Watson has taken over the role from Nick Chubb.

Look, if you don't realize this isn't a knock on Chubb but an endorsement of the work Deshaun has put in to earn the trust of this team, then I don't know what to tell you. I could type til I'm blue in the fingers about why this is well-deserved and the right move for the Cleveland Browns as an organization, but the fact of the matter is that the large majority of this world makes up their mind and refuses to ever change it, despite the circumstances changing. Do I think Deshaun Watson deserved to be a Captain last year? No, I do not. And he was not. But over the last 12 months, he worked his tail off, and now he is the clear leader of this team. He should absolutely be the captain.

But I know that little old Tate won't convince you, so let's here from the HEAD COACH of the ball team:

And I quote, "comfortable from leading out in front", "always done it his whole life", "impressive to watch", and "high quality leadership from Deshaun". Not sure you can get a better endorsement than that. But if you don't trust Coach, how about we hear from our Assistant General Manager, Ms. Catherine Raich.

And I quote, "build connection" "gain trust" and "impressive". What else do you want from a leader?

Plus, at the end of the day, these Captains were VOTED ON by the Browns players themselves. I'd have to imagine that if the team let the comment section make these decisions, Myles Garrett would've been left off the list too. But the good news is that our locker room has put their trust in our best players to continue to lead.

**If this announcement of our team leader being named Team Captain really makes you that upset, then I can't wait until Deshaun wins MVP this year.
