The First Trailer For David Fincher's 'THE KILLER' Starring Michael Fassbender Kicks Ass

After a fateful near miss, an assassin battles his employers, and himself, on an international manhunt he insists isn't personal.

This is a trailer that, if I had no idea David Fincher was involved or source material, I would usually be down on. It's a little late 90's with the music, quick cuts etc. but here are two important things to consider.

#1 This is based on a French comic series of the same name that fortunately has a longer synopsis than the movie.

A professional. A man of few scruples, nerves of steel, and a steady trigger finger, but also, a man on the verge of cracking.

After misadventures in Central and South America and having earned enough money to retire comfortably, the Killer retires to Mexico, but his colleagues are still in need of his irreplaceable skills . . . and before long he’s drawn back into the great geopolitical game between Cuba, Venezuela, and the United States.

Any time there is inspiration from a comic or graphic novel, you have to expect some stylization. In this case, the vibe they throw out there (hopefully) is just trying to match that genre.

#2. It's David Fincher. If there was ever a god of the modern psychological thriller, it's him.

I count those top 3 movies and 'The Game' among my all-time favorites in that genre.

And as much as I expect this to be good for those reasons, I also hope its good for the sake of Michael Fassbender. This guy is one of the better actors working and might have the worst agent of all time. After absolutely crushing it in 'Steve Jobs' and getting an Oscar nom, he has been in some truly heinous movies.

Hopefully, this is the movie that bucks the trend.
