Vikor Hovland Solidifies Himself As One Of The Elite Golfers In The World, Wins The Tour Championship And A Ho-Hum $18 Million

Viktor Hovland, man. He's one of those guys that obviously was a massive name when he was at Oklahoma State. I used to (still would) joke around about how you could trade him to America for the Ryder Cup because he feels like he's going to destroy us one year. Now he's $18 million richer and a Tour champion.

Let me correct that. He went back-to-back, winning last week at the BMW and this week at the Tour Championship to win this season. Not too shabby. Shockingly he did it styling a massive L on his shirt too

I'm starting to think he's an elite dresser because of how much people talk about him. That's a different blog though. This is a blog strictly about Hovland. He's clearly on the short list for guys who will win a major next. He went top-20 at all four this year, the top-2 at PGA, but he's gotta be on that list. There were always questions about his consistency but I don't think you can say that anymore. I'm not even overreacting to a 2-week stretch. It feels like the arrival of Hovland.

Not to mention he did it 'behind'. I say that only because of the staggered handicap stroke start. He started the tournament at -8, 2nd place and 2 behind Scottie. He had to make up ground and he did. He also was nails late, this putt mostly:

It's crazy to think where we are in the post-Tiger dominant era of guys. Hell, even past the Spieth/Thomas/DJ type group too. You have Hovland, Rahm, Scottie, Homa, Cantlay, Fitzpatrick, Xander, Cam Young, Morikawa, Tom Kim, etc. It's loaded week in and week out when these guys are playing AND you still add in the obvious Spieth, Thomas, DJ, Rory, etc. I love it. I love having guys like this where you just have no idea who the hell is going to run away and take a trophy. Hell, Xander says shot a 62 today and really had close to no shot!

Either way, what a run for Hovland. $21 million in 2 weeks. Ain't too shabby.
