Wrexham's Goalie Admits He's Stunk So Far This Year, Straight Up Retires From The Sport Just 2 Days After Giving Up 5 Goals

"I feel like there's been four of five goals this season already that I probably should be saving - goals are going in, and I'm thinking 'you should have saved that, how haven't you saved that?'

"I think that why I'm retiring, I just can't do what I used to do, but that's the way it goes! Age comes for us all; there's no shame in admitting that. But I do want to say a massive thank you to everyone!"

Now sure some of this is Ben Foster being 40 years old and retiring from soccer before, but come on. The dude even admits he's stunk it up this year so far and is just two days removed from giving up 5 goals. Incredible to straight up retire 48 hours after that. Self-aware to be like you know, I'm old, I've clearly lost a step, let me just get out of your guys way and you figure it out here.

Remember, Ben Foster was key in Wrexham getting promoted thanks to this save:

Dude played at the highest level and is 40 years old. But to still retire right after giving up 5 goals is fucking hilarious. I respect the move. I know people will say he's leaving his team high and dry in the start of the season. I disagree. He knows he's hurting them. Removing yourself from the team, give them a chance to find someone else is smart. That's being a good teammate. What if he just keeps giving up 5 goals? They've given up 13 goals in 4 games!

Wrexham should just embrace being the Hollywood team. Follow Ted Lasso and convince Ben Foster to be an assistant coach. Let him be the goalies coach or something like that. Keep him around because he'll 100% have to play again if Wrexham is in a pinch. He'll always have that penalty save.
