'Cotton Eye Joe' Came On In The Middle Of A Crucial Tiebreak In The Semifinals Of A WTA 1000 Tournament And Caused Play To Stop

I really thought this clip was going to be edited or some weird joke but nope. Nothing to see here, just the DJ(?) playing Cotton Eye Joe in the middle of an INCREDIBLY important rally in the semifinals of a 1000 tournament. Not a challenger, not some shitty junior tournament, but one of the biggest events of the year with massive implications for points. It's hard to say who would have won this point, but Pegula ended up losing the ensuing point and the tiebreak to push it to a third set. She also went down 2-0 in the third set before making a comeback and ultimately winning the match, but I digress.

We've also got to consider the location here. Is Cotton Eye Joe a normal song to play in Montreal? This tweet was all-time:

Regardless, you couldn't pick a funnier song to interrupt a point. It almost should become a trolling trend. Imagine instead of Rick Rolling we just Cotton Eye Joe'd people? What if we used it in life's most important moments? I vote next time they play through it, and just let the song go on repeat for the entirety of the tournament. If you can't play through that adversity, then you don't deserve to win a tennis tournament with a $3 million prize pool anyway.
