Why Is MLB The Way It Is? Did Anyone Even Know That The Hall Of Fame Ceremony Was in The Middle Of The Day On A Sunday?

I'm a sicko when it comes to baseball, so I knew that MLB was having it's Hall Of Fame ceremony at 1:30 PM on a Sunday right in the middle of a slate of games. I knew it, but did you? Probably not. In typical MLB fashion they butchered another big event. Why on earth do they hold their Hall Of Fame ceremony in the middle of the day when literally every team is playing? Why do they bury this event? NFL does it the right way, a stand alone event so the fans can watch. And I get that not every baseball fan is going to watch Scott Rolen and Fred McGriff get inducted and give their speeches, but even if they wanted to there is a good chance they didn't even know it was going on. I'm actually curious to see if casual baseball fans knew it was on. I'm willing to bet no.

I get there is a big weekend set up all around the events, but highlight it by putting it at night! It's upstate New York in the middle of July in an insanely hot stretch, why have 50K sit out there in the blistering sun? Have a lunch on Saturday and then throw the ceremonies and speeches at like 7:30-8 on Saturday night! You still have all Friday for the meet and greets, other events, appearances and all that. Plus you have the whole day Saturday before the guys have their big moments. Hell, throw it on Sunday night if you really wanted to have the full weekend for events and all that, but putting it in the middle of the day during games on a Sunday is just laughable.

It's supposed to be this huge, big event celebrating the greats of the game....but instead they hide the whole thing and you realize you missed Scott Rolen's speech because you had no clue that it was even going on. It's just so baseball to do this, and I know they've been doing it for a while but I couldn't stop thinking about it after I got 2-3 texts asking if I knew the HOF ceremony was going on. What's next, the draft on a Tuesday in December? Starting a World Series game at 11:30 AM on a Wednesday? Home Run Derby during halftime of the Super Bowl? Give these guys who are going into Cooperstown their shine, don't hide them behind 14 baseball games on a Sunday afternoon.

PS. What an awesome picture here from Griffey's IG. 4,507 home runs at one table. Sheesh.
