Zack Martin Was Given A 99 Overall Rating In Madden This Morning, Instantly Reveals That He May Hold Out Of Training Camp Until He Gets A New Contract
Cowboys’ six-time All-Pro guard and team captain Zack Martin is considering not reporting to training camp due to his unhappiness with his contract and the team’s lack of interest in restructuring it, per sources. Martin believes he is “woefully underpaid relative to the market.” Martin is scheduled to make about $7 million less this season than the NFL’s top-paid guards.
As Nate blogged about the other day, being given a 99 overall rating in Madden is pretty much the greatest honor a man can receive. Reaching the top of the Madden mountain and not being one of the thousands of players who complain about their rating every year is the reason you lift all those weights!
Which is why I love that Zack and his agent dropped this bomb on Jerruh while the virtual confetti was still falling in Maddenland. Not paying your guard fair market value after he has been the lynchpin of one of the best offensive lines for years is a tough look, but luckily most people aren't grinding game film like Steven Cheah or :turns on Football Hardo voice: know ball enough to realize just how dominant Zack Martin is. HOWEVAH, not paying your guard that became the first 99 in Madden at the position since Larry fucking Allen was wearing the star makes it seem outright criminal to common idiots like myself that base any part of their opinion of a player on Madden ratings (shout out Seneca Wallace for being criminally underrated for years in Madden). Maybe if the agents of NFL running backs start bringing up Madden ratings more, they can finally break through the wage ceiling seemingly set by the owners.
I've always heard that the Madden ratings guy was a Cowboys fan and feel like he has always juiced up some of the ratings of his Dallas' players while also giving no love to the other three teams in the NFC East. So if he gave Zack Martin a little boost without realizing it would instantly lead to the potential hold out of one of the Cowboys best players, I would like to send him this extremely accurate if not extremely dated meme.

P.S. Chief blogged about how much of a freak Larry Allen was during the early days of the Dogwalk drafts and it's a must read for anybody that can appreciate watching the handful of NFL players that are so athletic in a sport full of superathletes, they seem like aliens.
