Devin Booker's First "BOOK 1" Signature Shoe With Nike Is Dropping And They Are Alarmingly Ugly
So an exclusive look at Devin Booker's first shoe release with Nike just came out and these may be the ugliest signature shoes I've ever seen. With all due respect, nobody is wearing no fucking "BOOK 1s" if they look like this. Here's the description for the inspiration behind whatever these are:
His BOOK 1 signature shoe mirrors that old school appeal and desire to walk off the beaten path as the shoes clearly connect with the early 1980s era aesthetic of Nike Basketball. Clearly there’s a bit of the Air Force 1 on a 3/4 cut height, but overall the BOOK 1 acts as an homage to that revolutionary period. A newly revealed BOOK1 logo appears on the tongue, while ’96 — his birth year — proudly sits on the heel pull-tab. The Black/Hemp/Metallic Red Bronze colorway is one of several expected to release next year.
At least these are going to go double platinum at Marshalls or Kohl's. Not even sure I'd pay $20 for them there though. This is just a pair of AF1s that are trying to dress up as some Kobe's for Halloween. These look more like some Tony Hawk 7s than they do a signature shoe for one of the best players in the league. Looks like they just took a pair of some old Heely's and slapped a Nike logo with "BOOK" on the tongue and called it a day. Imagine hooping in these things? Absolutely no chance he laces those up for a real NBA game.
Signature shoes used to have some decorum. We've got some all time greats, and when done correctly, there's a lot of money to be made in the shoe game. Even newer releases like Jordan's Luka or Tatum 1's, or even the Ja Wick 1's from Nike are great starter signature shoes for today's stars. Then we get whatever these are. Good news is these aren't supposed to release until next year anyway, so take them back to the lab and start from scratch away from whatever these tried to be.
