The Phillies And Braves Look The Stay Hot, And Anthony Rizzo Is Hoping To Go Deep Against His Former Teammate

RECORD

8-11-2 (-2.4 units)

Not an AWFUL day yesterday, but not exactly a good one either. Willy Adames played a fine game, but didn't get over 1.5 bases. Much like the rest of the Yankees offense, Harrison Bader took a day off yesterday. He failed to go deep. The Reds ML hit in extra innings, which was my only saving grace. Like I've said, I'm still trying to get a feel for this stuff. There are a lot of numbers to look at, but I'm overthinking. Let's return to basics and keep it nice and straightforward with today's picks.

Phillies RL (+128) against the Marlins

I'm trying to find the system that works for me. I'm still paying a lot of attention to the numbers, but I'm not trying to abide by them religiously. The vibes in Philly are very high right now. They've won 12 consecutive road games and swept the Tampa Bay Rays. Zack Wheeler is on the mound of the Phillies. He's been fantastic in his career against the Marlins, posting a 10-4 record with a 2.37 ERA against the fish. Sandy Alcantara is pitching for the Marlins. His career numbers against the Phillies are solid, but he gave up nine earned runs in his only start against Philly in 2023. These are two hot teams, but I like the Phillies to keep their road winning streak going.

Braves -1.5 (+160) against the Rays

I know they're playing on the road, but I'm a bit stunned by the value on this one. These have been the two best teams in baseball all season, but the Rays have started to show some cracks in their armor (they just got swept at home) and the Braves are on a ridiculous run, having won 18 of their last twenty. Charlie Morton is on the mound of Atlatana. He may not be the Cy Young caliber pitcher that he was several years back, but he's still rock solid. He's going up against Tyler Glasnow, who is rocking a 4.50 ERA so far this season. The Braves offense feats on everyone, and I expect they'll do the same to Glasnow.

Anthony Rizzo (+300) to homer against the Cubs

+300 isn't exactly great value for a home run prop, but there are a lot of signs (shoutout to Jersey Jerry) that point to Rizzo going deep tonight. The Yankees are going to come out pissed off. They just lost a series at home against the Orioles, including a 14-1 thrashing last night. Former Yankee Jameson Taillon returns to the Bronx to pitch tonight for the Cubs. He's had a resilient career, but his numbers this year are miserable. He's posted a 6.93 ERA in 2023, and Anthony Rizzo is probably the last person he wants to see at the dish. Rizzo is 10-22 with two home runs in his career against Taillon. Here's hoping Rizzo plants one in that short right porch at Yankee Stadium.
