Console Wars Are Finally Over: Microsoft Waves The White Flag And Says Xbox Lost To Sony
The Microsoft vs the FTC for the $69 billion acquisition of Activision-Blizzard buyout battle is heating up and with it we've finally got a winner in the decades-long console wars. If you're unfamiliar with what's going on, the FTC is basically trying to block Microsoft from purchasing Activision-Blizzard, makers of Call of Duty, World of Warcraft, Overwatch, you name it, because they think it'll create a monopoly in the gaming space. They think Microsoft is going to make every Activision-Blizzard game an Xbox exclusive, something that Microsoft is adamantly denying. This led to them finally admitting defeat and saying they don't pale in comparison to Sony or even Nintendo and that it wouldn't be possible. Weird posturing by the CEO of Xbox Phil Spencer to just surrender to their biggest rivals and think that the FTC will be like "alright, well go ahead with the acquisition then". Spoiler alert: it didn't work.
It might finally be time we admit that Xbox blew a 3-1 lead. Halo exclusive? CoD and party chats back in the days? Xbox has always had the better user interface, controllers, and hardware, so this is a dark day for Team Xbox. Only dorks were playing PlayStation back in the day, and somehow Microsoft managed to lose their entire fanbase in just a few generations of consoles. Console wars are in general pretty dumb, but at least we've finally got a declared winner so we can never hear about it again. Hilarious we've reached the point where we decided this in actual court, but congrats to the Sony/PlayStation diehards on your long awaited clarity. Until those PC nerds step in and say that they're the real winners and we start this cycle over again.
