Unwritten Rules In Sports Continue To Be Stupid - Rory Is Catching Heat For Admitting He Wanted Wyndham Clark To Screw Up The 18th Hole

I absolutely despise anything with unwritten rules. It doesn't matter the sport, they are all pointless. Baseball is bad, golf is terrible too. Rory is actually catching heat for this. I'm not going to post the tweets I saw calling Rory a loser, calling him out for breaking an unwritten rule, etc. Because, uh, this is normal. Why wouldn't you cheer for a guy to screw up to give you a shot in the playoff? 

There's no competitor in any sport that would actively want to lose. Yeah, 2nd in a major is completely different than losing a regular season baseball game or something like that, but still. You want to win. You're not sitting there fist pumping if Clark bogeys the hole. But inside that's what you want. You want one more chance to win the US Open.

And, hey, I get the argument that Rory should have gotten a birdie or two. I get that he should have made more putts. But the fact is it came down to the 18th hole and Wyndham Clark delivered. This is more about pointless unwritten rules and people getting pissy over nothing. 

I said it before, but I love golf, that doesn't mean it can be improved. I don't want to start the divot debate but I despise that dudes get punished for being in a later group and having to hit out of a divot in a fairway. I think at the amateur level basically everything should be a lateral penalty, speed the game up. And I especially hate that you can't admit you wanted someone to screw up so you could win. Guess what? Every player wants that. Every team wants that. You can be happy for Clark to win, but still want a shot.
