I Love The Pushback And Outrage On Self Checkout Machines Having The Audacity To Ask For A Tip

NY Post - A woman has gone viral after posting a photo of a self-checkout machine from a cafe at Newark Airport asking her to leave a tip.

Reddit user seaweed posted to the page MildlyInfuriating a photo of the digital interaction, garnering 110,000 votes and 4,600 comments.

Some even commented saying they had the same experience at the same kiosk at Newark, sharing photos that appear to be at a CIBO Express Gourmet Market.

The photo shows that the woman bought a chicken Caesar wrap and a Vita Coco coconut water, with the screen prompting tip options of 15%, 18% and 20%.

Reddit users were shocked by the idea of being asked to tip at self-checkout, with one asking, “Tip who exactly?”

I cannot stess this enough. I despise self checkout and all things associated with it. I have essentially declared war on CVS.

Of all the places that have absolutely no right to ask for tips … it's the airport. The airport has been fleecing people since the plane has wings and now they want us to tip on overpriced goods because I bought a Snickers for $8? Get lost. What a joke.

This user's comment is 100% true …

NY Post - “This is especially annoying given how overpriced everything is at the airport. Then they have the nerve to ask for a tip,” someone pointed out.

“Does the money I tip go back into my account as I’M the server?! In that case. 100% tip!” another quipped.

HOW CAN YOU ASK FOR A TIP WHEN NO ONE BUT YOU DID THE WORK?  IF ANYTHING THEY SHOULD BE OFFERING A DISCOUNT SINCE YOU DID THE WORK OF A CASHIER.

This will never stop annoying me, and Airports have some fucking nerve being the latest on the list. Overpriced scumbags trying to squeeze out every dollar they can. It has to end, and people need to start banding together to expose the absolute racket that is self checkout. We have to fight this before they get out of control and not ask for tips, and start baking them into it without asking. Give an inch they will take a mile … fight it while we still can.
