Michael Malone Talking Shit, Christian Braun On Another Planet, And DeAndre Jordan Chugging Beers Has The Nuggets Championship Parade Off To A Great Start
There is truly nothing like Parade Day. It doesn't really matter what sport it is, they all rule. Celebrating a Super Bowl win? Awesome. Celebrating a World Series win? Very fun. Celebrating a Stanley Cup win? Tremendous. Celebrating an NBA title? You guessed it, sensational.
I've been fortunate to experience all four at some point in my life, and while it may seem a little dramatic to call Parade Day life changing, it kind of is. Especially when it's the first ever title or a title that comes after decades and decades of waiting. When it's both? Oh man, now you're really cooking with gas. Add in the fact that the city of Denver is now doing this shit in back to back years with hockey and basketball, something that we haven't seen since 1969/1970, I'd say that's a pretty big deal
I'll always remember when the Sox finally broke the curse when I was in high school in 2004. Schools shut down, everyone left work, and the parade was incredible. At that time we had no idea what was coming, so for all we knew this was the only Sox title many of us thought we would ever see. Outside of the Pats, who knew if there would ever be another title and Parade Day any time soon. The Celts were barely winning 35 games and when they did make the playoffs, they lost in the first round. The Bruins were doing the same exact thing around that time. While it wasn't the first title for the Sox, breaking an 86 year old curse sure as shit felt like it was. There's just something special about finally having this moment after you've waited your entire life to see it. This isn't a situation where your parents or grandparents saw a title back in the day and could tell you stories about it. Every Nuggets fan young and old has waited their entire life for this moment, and now it's finally here.
So it's not surprising that the city was expecting hundreds of thousands of people to show up today for the parade. We saw what the celebrations looked like the other night,
What a shit talking postseason run for Michael Malone huh? I know maybe some people don't like it, but I love it. When you win, you can talk all the shit you want. Looking back it's still very funny how even in the Nuggets wins, the narratives and the discussions were always about the other team, especially in that Lakers series. Every round we got more and more A+ quotes from Malone, and now that they pulled off the title it looks even better. Sure the opposite would have been true if they lost, but they didn't. Now is the time to talk your shit and Michael Malone certainly understands that.
Ah yes, the all important beer toss during a championship parade. A true staple of the event and this is flawless execution from everyone involved. Great toss by that fan and a great catch by DeAndre. Could have been a little more emphatic on the chug, but he's probably pacing himself. That's a vet move if I've ever seen one.

Aaron Gordon wasn't just key to the Nuggets title, he's basically cemented himself as a Nuggets legend. Nobody has embraced enjoying this moment with Nuggets fans quite like Gordon
The guy accepted his role, thrived in it, and is now a champ. He's embraced the city and the city is clearly embracing him right back. Pretty cool to see given what he was while on the Magic.
No parade is complete without someone getting absolutely destroyed, and it looks as if Christian Braun is going to fill that role. Whatever, when you're a rookie who just played a role in why the Nuggets won an NBA title, you get completely hammered at the parade. Those are the rules.
This thing just started so I'll update as more stuff comes out, but what a great day for the Nuggets, their fans, and the city of Denver. There's truly nothing like a day like this, so make sure you enjoy every last second of it.
