It's A HUGE Day For Catholics Everywhere As Marty Scorsese Has Received Pope Francis' Blessing To Make A Jesus Movie
NY Post- Acclaimed director Martin Scorsese has his next project on deck — and it’s about Jesus Christ.
The “Taxi Driver” filmmaker, 80, received a blessing from Pope Francis for his upcoming movie.
After attending the Cannes Film Festival last week, Scorsese visited Italy and had a conversation with Antonio Spadaro, editor-in-chief of the magazine “La Civiltà Cattolica” — translated to the “Catholic Civilization” — on Monday.
He revealed in the chat that he recently saw the pontiff, 86. “I responded to the Pope’s appeal to artists the only way I know how: by imagining and writing a screenplay for a film about Jesus,” he said. “And I’m about to start making it.”
Martin Scorsese is the greatest film director to ever live on this planet. He's been in the game for 50+ years giving us timeless classics like Mean Streets, Raging Bull, King of Comedy, Goodfellas (greatest movie ever made), Casino, The Departed, The Wolf of Wall Street, The Irishman, and the list goes on and on and on and on. Guy's the Drake of directing. Everything he touches turns to gold and now at the ripe age of 80 years is tossing his hat into the ring of one Jesus Christ. And in true Martin Scorsese he literally went directly from the Cannes Film Festival for his new probable classic to Italy to meet the fucking Pope to ask for his permission to make this movie! The guy simply couldn't be more classy if he tried- that feels like an Ace Rothstein-esqure move from him! It's just a huge day for Italian Catholics everywhere. Scorsese is making a new movie. It's about Jesus. The Pope okay'd it. There's love in the air!
Now the interesting question is...Who in sam hell is going to play MARTIN SCORSESE's Jesus?!?!??!?! Vinny Chase getting James Cameron's Aquaman can take a backseat because this, quite literally, sounds like the most intimidating role in Hollywood history. So who the hell is it gonna be? No disrespect, and I know he's still popping out kids at 79, but Robert Deniro just may be a TAD too old to play Jesus. Same with Leo. If it's not one of those 2 repeat Scorsese customers I'd assume it needs to be someone unknown. Talk about about pressure! Who's Mary? Who's Joseph? Who's Judas? Cannot wait to see this cast though off the top of my head I want Jon Bernthal as Joseph. Love that guy.
