7 Year Old Little Leaguer Saved From A 'Dust Devil' By An Umpire Who Certainly Doesn't Get Paid Enough To Do This Shit

Ummm pitch clock violation, anyone?

A lot to dive in here but let's start with the umpire of course. The job of a u7 baseball little league umpire is tough as it is. You're constantly dealing with all sorts of parents getting on you for anything and everything. None of this shit matters and the score is completely meaningless, but yet there you are taking one on the chin for any missed call all to earn $10 an hour. All of that factored in and here comes a fucking mini-tornado rolling through your game. Gotta be fucking kidding me. Have to respect this fella for having the balls to go back in there and save the kid who was in trouble. Certainly not getting paid anywhere close to enough to do that. If he hears any heckling on balls and strikes after that he better be tossing folks.

Also, did the hitter make actual contact there despite the dust-devil forming at home plate the moment the ball crossed the plate? I've gone back a few times and I think I hear a foul tip before the ball flies back to the fence. Wanna talk about being locked in at the plate? Making contact mid-tornado is a pretty good indicator of what's to come from that ball player.

Okay time to talk about the 'dust devil' itself. What the fuck are those things? I know Florida is essentially in another dimension from everyone else, but they've really got that going on? Those just pop out of nowhere without a moment's notice? Absolutely fucking not. I played baseball my entire childhood into my late teens and never once encountered a diamond dust devil like that.

Here's the kid talking about the moment afterwards

Better than me. I too had seen 'Twister' at a young age and let me tell ya, there would be nothing else I'd be thinking about in that moment. Happy stuff would be so far way in my head from being thought of. Maybe there was some Dragon Ball Z shit and this kid was about to go full Super Saiyan mode only for the ump to mess it up?

My constant number one fear as a kid was a tornado. If my parents went out for dinner one night and a storm blew through our town I'd just be glued to the weather channel waiting for Monmouth County to pop in the 'warning' section.

Tornadoes, water spouts, and now add dust devils to the list. No thanks. I know hurricanes cause more total damage, but at least you have days notice to get outta Dodge and seek proper shelter. Those three I listed above? Zero warning, you just get torn apart.
