Top 5 Old School Places To Hold Your Cash Other Than A Wallet

This is so old school it's fantastic. Maybe this was a movement back in the day, or maybe it was just a Brooklyn thing but my dad and my uncles did this when I was a kid, and taught us to do it when we were going to walk to the store or ride our bikes and had no wallet or shorts with no pockets, which was like 95% of the time because we wore basketball shorts. I didn't blink that much at Elio doing this, because I've seen it before and done it before myself. I more laughed at it because it's such a throwback, but not as much of a throwback as you think.

In fact there's been sometimes recently, especially in the summer where I leave the house without my wallet. If I'm wearing basketball shorts or a bathing suit when I run out of the house quick to the deli and don't want to hold a bulky wallet I stash my cash in odd places. The way I look at it is I'm running in and out to the store, why weigh myself down with baggage etc ? I grab the 1 or 2 bills I need or the wad of singles whatever, and run to the store.

Here's 5 places I've shoved my cash in a pinch, or my top 5 places other than a wallet to hold your cash.

5- The sock

There's a reason this is a rarity. Is it secure ? Yes for sure, but your socks have to be bigger. You can't be doing this with ankle socks. At that point just put it in your shoe, which I have seen done before, but that's a super pain in the ass because you have to take the entire shoe off. The downside of the sock is that you better do it for a quick period of time, because the longer you go, the more likely it is to get sweaty and gross. You walk a mall for 2-3 hours and reach into that sock, the money feels like you dropped it in a puddle. Gross. Sock has it's benefits, but definitely it's downfalls. Comes in at the 5 spot.

4- Shoved in between the back of your phone and the case of your phone

Very practical. Very easy. You can't leave the house without your phone, so you will always carry your phone in your hand or stash it in the car but you have to have it. This one is a no brainer. Easy peasy.

3- The waistband of your shorts  / underwear

This one may be controversial but it's old reliable for me. Jam that shit right in your waistband and head out. Is there a risk of it slipping down your pants past your brajole and onto the floor? Possibly, but what's more likely it's secure as well on your quick little trip. This one to be honest is my go to most days. I just shove it and go. Very Very easy.

2- The Fanny Pack

This one is terrific as Big Cat explains, but the trick is you have to have a fanny pack. Not everyone has one. It's no turning back once you do it. I'll be honest... I made the leap. It's worth it. In fact I wore sweatpants today that had pockets that didn't fit my phone and I went fanny pack. This is without a doubt the most practical, safest, and best of all the options, the only thing is not everyone has one and once you get one you will be grateful. For anyone out there debating the move, make it. It's worth it.

1- In the flap on the inside of the brim of your hat

Can't lose money if it's literally on your head. Always safe. A buffer so it doesn't touch your actual hair... terrific.

A little pro tip ... when you take the hat off bend down a little and pull the hat out in front of you so the money doesn't spill out onto the floor.

Final point, anyone who says carrying cash is a lost art can kiss my ass. Is everything mostly on cards, and your phones and chips in your arm or some shit yes ? But real old school guys like me and Elio still like the feel of bills in our hands. Don't judge us. We are creatures of habit.
