Afroman Is Running For President

TMZ - No candidate for U.S. President will burn up the campaign trail like this one ... Afroman is throwing his hat in the ring, and he picked an appropriate week to make it official.

The rapper just filed the paperwork with the Federal Elections Commission required to run for our nation's highest elected office in the 2024 election.

According to the docs, obtained by TMZ, Afroman's presidential committee is named "Joseph Afroman Foreman for President," and he's running as an Independent. We know you were thinking Green Party, but no dice.

USA! USA! USA! USA!

What a day for Afroman. What a day for America.

Afroman has officially thrown his afro in the ring to be our next President. Or at least he's filled out all the paperwork. Commander in Chief? More like Commander in Chiefing Loud.

Is Afroman a serious candidate? If he's running for President, I'm sure he has some real ideas. He's more than a forgetful stoner who is constantly skipping class, and not cleaning his room because he got high. I wonder what actual platform he will be running on. My guess is Education.

Afroman's platform will unsurprisingly place an emphasis on the national legalization of marijuana ... but it's still unclear where he falls on other international and domestic issues.

Alright, never mind. Looks like he's sticking to the weed thing. That's cool. It's a unique platform, I'll give him that. Plus, there are a lot of benefits to marijuana. I'm yet to discover them. Ever since I turned 25 smoking weed has given me crippling anxiety, but a lot of people swear by it.

I'm a little worried that Afroman's past might prevent him from being taken seriously as candidate. For example, Afroman's home was just raided by the police on suspicion of drug trafficking. He actually filmed the raid, and used the footage in a music video.

According to Afroman, the cops broke his security gate and it cost him $20,000 to repair. He also claims the cops stole $5,000 from him. Those same cops are suing Afroman for using their likeness in his video. It's a whole big Afroman vs Cops fiasco. I don't mean to hold that against his campaign, but that doesn't seem overly presidential

But I don't think the Afroman vs Cops saga is what will bring him down. The cops didn't find anything in their raid, so he can explain that situation away no problem. He could even use it to his advantage. I am, however, worried that the story of him punching a woman in Biloxi, Mississippi might come back to haunt him. Hitting a woman is not very Presidential.

I don't want to be cynical, but I fear Afroman has too much going against him. I'm not saying it's impossible. If every politician in the world dies in a Titanic-esque boat crash, that could open things up for him. I just worry that his "legalize weed" platform relies too heavily on a base of stoners. Relying on stoners to get off their couch and vote is a losing proposition. I worry his skills as an artist won't necessarily translate to the office of the President. I worry voters will see his current status of "being sued by the cops" as a negative. And again, I don't love the fact that there's a video of him choke slamming a woman online.

Best of luck, Afroman. I probably won't be voting for you.
