HISTORY MADE! THE BOSTON BRUINS OWN THE RECORD FOR MOST WINS IN A SINGLE SEASON IN NHL HISTORY WITH 63!
HISTORY MADE! It's official… No team in the history of the NHL has won more games in a single season than the 2022-2023 Boston Bruins as they have just earned win No. 63. Oh, and they did it without the likes of Patrice Bergeron, Charlie McAvoy, David Krejci, Dmitry Orlov, Linus Ullmark and Taylor Hall. David Pastrnak had himself an Easter capping off the hat trick to reach 60 goals this season and 300 in his career. I think Patrice Bergeron summed it up best after the Devils game on Saturday night, they're right there.. why not try and break the record? And now that it's been broken, all eyes can finally be set for the postseason. This team has been something special to watch all year long, and man I can't wait for next week.
It's special for a lot of reasons but I always go back to the fact that no one (me included), expected them to be this good. If you go back to the summer you were looking at Marchand, McAvoy and Grzelcyk missing serious time to start the year with surgeries, uncertainty around Patrice Bergeron returning and the firing of Bruce Cassidy. Who would have thought David Krejci would come back for another run? Things were looking BLEAK and flash forward to April 9th and they have their 63rd victory in what has been an insane season. Ton of fun to watch. You have to give Jim Montgomery all the credit in the world for the way he's come into that locker room and injected believability right away, same with how Don Sweeney has crafted this lineup. It's the deepest team I've seen in my 28 years of living. But not only that, the vibes on this team are just different. Everything we've heard about those guys in that locker room, how tight they are and how they would all go to war for each other. It's been amazing to see.
So hats off to an unbelievable regular season, but it's time to focus on what really matters - the 16 wins they need to lift Lord Stanley's Cup..
David Pastrnak with 3 goals (and 1 disallowed) for his 15th career hat trick (2nd in franchise history), 60th goal of the season and 300th in his career. He joins Phil Esposito as the only players in Bruins history to score 60 in a season. What a game from him.
FINAL: Boston 5, Philadelphia 3

- Tyler Bertuzzi with a 3 assist night playing with David Pastrnak (3G, 1A) and Pavel Zacha (1G, 1A). Krejci will reunite with his fellow countrymen when he returns but this line was a ton of fun to watch today. Have a day Bert!
- Like I said, No Krejci/Bergeron/McAvoy/Orlov/Hall or Ullmark tonight for Boston. Montgomery said Ullmark didn't travel due to a "lower body issue". They head back home to host the Capitals and I'm sure you'll see a skeleton crew once again.
- Vinni Lettieri and Connor Carrick slotted into the lineup from Providence. Carrick picked up an assist on Charlie Coyle's opening goal.
- Jeremy Swayman had a blunder earlier in the game but stayed strong the rest of the way. We'll see if it'll be him or Ullmark in net Tuesday night.
Record, set. Now all eyes on staying healthy the last 2 games of the year. Bruins won't know who they play until the end of the week - it'll be one of the New York Islanders, Florida Panthers or Pittsburgh Penguins (Buffalo is hanging around but I don't think they'll make it in).
GEAR UP FOR THE PLAYOFFS!!!!!
For the 63rd time this season, It was a great night to win a hockey game.
