Let’s All Follow Vanessa Hudgens’ Lead and Not Say Hi to Our Exes in Public

ICYMI: Vanessa Hudgens and Austin Butler dated from 2011 to 2020. 

They lived together. They made long distance work when they needed to. She told him to play Elvis. It was beautiful. But it also is no more.

Fast forward to Sunday at the Oscars. She walks right by him.

Is it sad that after nearly a decade together they seem like strangers here? Sure. Breakups are sad. But that doesn't mean she needs to interact with him. 

It would either be 1) awkward or 2) there would be some kind of weird residual spark. Can't imagine Vanessa wants either outcome, especially now that she's engaged to pro baseball player Cole Tucker.

On top of that, Vanessa says hi, the paparazzi goes crazy. I can see the headlines now:

"Vanessa Wants Austin Back!" 

"Engaged Vanessa Gets Flirty with Austin Butler!"

No. She doesn't need that. I think we can all take a page from her book here. There's a reason why an ex is an ex. No need to dive back into your past. (Looking at you, people who still text their ex happy birthday.)
