Bruce Springsteen Just Announced He's Playing Wrigley Field This Summer

USA Today - When Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band return to the road, it’s a commitment.

Still in the midst of the first round of 2023 dates, Springsteen and his loyal crew are extending their North American run with 22 shows – most of them in stadiums – to kick off Aug. 9 in Chicago.

The tour – Springsteen’s first in six years – began Feb. 1 in Tampa, Florida. So far, he and the E Streeters have stuck to a set list of about 27-28 songs, including classics “Born to Run,” “Prove it All Night” and some dips into Springsteen’s current covers album, “Only The Strong Survive” (“Nightshift”).

Well, this is awesome Valentine's Day news. I'm trekking it up to Detroit for the March 29th show with my boys because I didn't think there'd be a Chicago date until next fall or winter. But now we've got the Boss playing the baseball cathedral on the north side, on what's sure to be a beautiful summer evening under the stars in Chicago.

Unlike his last show at Wrigley, which I was at, where the sky opened up in the middle of his show and we all got torrentially rained on for over an hour. Bruce didn’t let up though, he relished the down pour and came out into the crowd, slammed beers, semi-crowd surfed, stomped around in puddles. It was actually pretty epic.

If you've never been to a Springsteen show, I implore you, as a fan of live music of any sort, you need to see one before he calls it quits or kicks the bucket. It's a transcendent experience. He plays 30+ songs. The set is never the same. He takes fan requests. He does covers. And his encore is like half an hour long. Altogether, you're looking at a minimum three-hour show where the 73-year-old guy comes out and doesn't stop moving around the entire time, singing his ass off. And let's not discount the E-Street Band either.

BUT, I will say this. If Bruce and Ticketmaster pull this "dynamic ticket pricing" bullshit again, I am o-u-t, out on this.

Gouging fans thousands to see your show, and justifying it as pricing out the scalpers, and claiming its "fair market value based on other major acts" is bonkers.

That said, here is what you need to know about securing tickets for the shows.

The best tactic: patience. Much like an Uber ride’s price will spike when a concert lets out, concert ticket prices are likely to jump in the excitement of the on-sale release date. But if you wait, prices may well come down for those once-pricey seats.

In a recent study of resale market tickets by FinanceBuzz, concertgoers spent 33% less than the average ticket price when purchasing on the day of the concert, and 27% less than average when buying the day before the show.

“Don’t rule out your local fan club or radio-station promotions," Budnick says. "Check with your credit-card company; sometimes they offer access to tickets. And don’t forget production holds, that is the release of tickets by management closer to the show once they determine how many tickets they needed to hold back for the artist. Set yourself up for more than one bite of the apple.”
