Last Night's Episode Of The Last Of Us Was Amazing And It May Be The Best Zombie-Adjacent Show Ever

It's only three episodes in and this isn't just the best video game adaption ever. It might also in the best ever zombie story as well. The first season of The Walking Dead had it's moments (and the comics were especially great) but even in TWD's greatest moments, they don't stack up what The Last Of Us has delivered last night.

The craziest thing about The Last Of Us is the best moments have been the ones that are away from the main characters and the action. The cold opens in the first two episodes have been terrifying. Then the flashbacks from last night's show somehow topped those. I don't typically love video games that aren't open sandbox so I didn't spend much time playing The Last Of Us. At this point, I'm glad I didn't. The story is so well crafted, it's more fun when it is a surprise.

I promise I won't give much away about last night's episode but the majority of it revolves around a survivalist (played by Nick Offerman). It's like if Nick Swanson was even more of a total badass.

Offerman meets another person who falls into one of the traps he leaves for the zombies. It becomes a heart breaking and stunning story of these two people. It's also pretty funny at times.

Surrounding this tale is Joel (Pedro Pascal) and Ellie (Bella Ramsey) making their way out west. Pascal is really impressive. He never does too much and is easy to root for. You simply believe that he lives in this pretty outrageous world. The production values also really help. The Walking Dead ran into this budget issue constantly with AMC and at times, that show felt really cheap. You could see the limitations on the screen. It's the opposite with The Last Of Us. Each episode feels like a major feature film. It makes this chaotic situation feel so much more realistic.

There is nothing better than having a great show to look forward to on Sunday nights. it makes the end of the weekend feel so much more palatable. I was never a big Game Of Thrones guy so this is the first drama (unless you count the excellent Barry) that I've had to get excited about.

Monday Night Football is over so you have plenty of free time tonight to check this out. The episodes are long (two of them have been 80 minutes+) but it's so good that you won't want them to end.
