Geno Smith Still Ain't Writing Back: Delivers 50-Yard TD Bomb To DK Metcalf And Gives Seahawks A Stunning Halftime Lead

I was confused by the widespread argument that Geno Smith, um, "regressed" toward the end of this season, and was therefore implicated as a big reason why the Seahawks lost five of six to nearly derail their playoff bid. With the very real exception of Week 18, Geno was just fine during that rough run for Seattle.

After managing the game nicely against the 49ers till late in the second quarter on Saturday, the savvy veteran quarterback shrugged at San Francisco's blitz and laid in a perfect go ball to DK Metcalf. Fifty-yard TD connection. A lead of 14-13 for the 9.5-point underdog Seahawks.

Talk about an impressive throw. An easy 50+ air yards with plenty of touch; completion probability: 24.2%.

If you can't find it in your heart to root for Geno Smith and enthusiastically cheer on his inconceivable comeback story, you're a strange, strange soul. Obvious exception being 49ers fans right now.

It's a 17-16 Seahawks edge at halftime. It's clear which signal-caller has looked steadier in his playoff debut between Geno and Brock Purdy. Not unexpected given Purdy is a rookie seventh-round pick. Despite how far beyond expectations Purdy has progressed to, Geno's nomadic career prepared him to be the Seahawks' QB1, and he's not flinching in the slightest on the grander playoff stage. He went 9-for-10 for 104 yards passing in the opening half and ran for 19 yards on three carries.

And yes, Geno will remain with the 'Hawks next year. Rejoice, 12th Man fans!
