Derek Carr Is Now On The Trade Market And The Jets Should Immediately Go Get Him

Derek Carr wants out of Las Vegas. Based on the Raiders benching him for the last two games of the season, it seems they want to move him too. Carr says in that statement above that he has a "That fire burning inside of me to win a championship still rages. A fire no man can extinguish; only God." I see no place better for that fire to burn than with the New York Jets at MetLife Stadium.

You don't need to be Vince Lombardi to know the Jets might have the worst quarterback play in the NFL this season. That they still managed to win seven games proves how great that defense led by Quinnen Williams and Sauce Gardener was. If you put a decent quarterback on the Jets, they instantly become one of the better teams in the NFL.

Don't get me wrong. I'm not saying Carr is in the top tier of quarterbacks but he is still a quality option. He's had over 20 passing touchdowns each of the past four seasons. The Jets haven't had a quarterback throw for 20 touchdowns since Ryan Fitzpatrick in 2015. Having a dependable and durable (Carr hasn't missed a game due to injury since 2017) quarterback is something the Jets desperately need.

SOURCE - The Raiders have just more than a month until Carr’s $40.4MM guarantee vests. As of now, that figure becomes guaranteed three days after Super Bowl LVII (Feb. 15).

If the Raiders are unable to trade Carr, it is believed they will release him rather than pay that $40.4MM. Despite the team giving Carr a three-year, $121.4MM extension just last year, a release — thanks to the uniquely structured deal — would result in just a $5.6MM dead-money charge. Carr’s deal calls for a guaranteed $32.9MM base salary and 2024 and ’25 bases of $41.9MM and $41.2MM, respectively. Just $7.5MM of the 2024 base salary is guaranteed; the 2025 year is nonguaranteed.

The Jets shouldn't wait. Trade for him now. He does have a no-trade clause but to keep his contract going, he might green light any deal. Jets GM Joe Douglas needs to move quick and keep Carr off the open market. That $40.4 Million bucks is a huge number but he's still only 31 years old and you'd be locking in a QB for the next three years. The Jets have assets to trade including the 13th overall pick in the upcoming draft.

Joe Douglas better be on the phone today talking trade with Las Vegas. I wonder/hope/pray/wish if they would have any interest in Zach Wilson? Just kidding. Other than Mona from Who's The Boss? and Blanche from Golden Girls, I don't anyone having much interest in Zach Wilson.
