Does Fantasy Football Cockblocking Work?

Earlier this week, we saw an absolutely savage move from Mike Napoli when he picked up almost all the good QBs available after his opponent in the playoffs this week, Shane Bieber & Austin Hedges lost Kyler Murray for the season on Monday night. Certainly it was a massive oversight by the Guardians duo, but does fantasy football cockblocking actually work? It's a big karma game and so far, Biebs & Hedges have picked up 3.9 points after a big Christian McCaffrey TNF so make this game essentially a coin flip with line being set at 2 in favor of Napoli.

Biebs & Hedges originally picked up Ryan Tannehill, but dropped him for Matt Ryan who is facing the NFL's worst pass defense as far as yards per game. But I think we could see the wheels start to fall of this squad as the loss of Kyler not only impacted their QB position, but their WRs too as Deandre Hopkins and Hollywood Brown (on bench this week) take massive steps back in value with Colt McCoy under center. Mike Evans has been slumping too so they'll need massive games from Matty Ice, Barstool Lenny, Mike Williams, and Dalton Schultz to have a shot this week. Napoli has a great matchup with Jalen Hurst and Miles Sanders taking on the Bears who are happy to trade touchdowns. Greg Dulcich also gets the Cardinals, who give up the most fantasy points to TEs in the NFL. Aaron Jones should be the cherry on the Sunday on MNF.

In the #3 vs. #6 matchup, we've got the duo of Christian Yelich & Jace Peterson vs. the overwhelming favorite, Jake Marisnick. Marisnick just missed out on the bye, but instead gets the team that put up the least amount of points during the regular season who certainly benefitted from lucky scheduling.

Team Questionable has an uphill battle after Brandon Aiyuk put up a clunker on TNF. They do have some decent matchups with Dalvin Cook getting a leaky Indy D and Justin Herbert getting a vulnerable Titans pass D. But I’d be hard pressed to bet against Marisnick’s diesel squad that has a ton of stallions with Josh Allen, Travis Etienne, Saquon Barkley, and Travis Kelce among others. It’s hard to imagine them not making a deep run this postseason.
