JJ Watt Says He Hated The NFL In His First Season And Reveals The Texans Almost Cut Him For Being An Awful Player

JJ Watt explaining how bad of a football player he was is fascinating. Early on he could not play in the Texas defensive system and had to do it his own way to shine. He decided to let loose and play how he wanted to play and became one of the most dominant defensive players we've seen in a long time. So that brings up a very important question, how many teams' systems have held back certain players and ruined their careers?

A lot of players want to buy into a system and do what they need for the coach because thats how a lot of young players are going to get playing time. Takes some balls to go the other way and do it your own way. I could only imagine Quarterbacks like Baker, Manziel, Rosen and others might of actually had a steady career if they were put in the right system. Not to make this about Baker but I'll make it about him anytime I can, he looked more comfortable with McVay calling the shots and just letting him play his game. I feel like a lot of these coaches have egos and force their guys to buy into their way or it's the highway. Sometimes, like with Watt, you're hurting your guys by doing that.

That image of the coach taking away JJ Watt's helmet is something. Guy probably thought at that moment JJ was worthless and had no business being on the field. That's a problem! When you were younger you always thought your teachers were the smartest people in the world. Then you grow up and some of your friends are teachers and know how they party and then it all makes sense. Not all coaches know what they are doing is what I am trying to get at, and a lot of players are looked at as busts. Maybe a big part of that had to do with the coaching staff as well and they never get that blame.
