We Got Our First Look At An Artificial Human Womb Facility And It Is Straight Out Of A Science Fiction Nightmare

Daily Mail- A birthing facility that can grow up to 30,000 babies a year inside artificial wombs could solve the world's low birth rates, which Elon Musk believes is the most significant threat to human civilization. A new concept video takes viewers on tour through The EctoLife Artificial Womb Facility, where hundreds of fetuses sit in transparent pods that are temperature controlled and feature an umbilical cord to receive oxygen and nutrients.

Hashem Al-Ghaili, a film producer and biotechnologist, created the life-like film to start a conversation about such technologies that would allow women who had their uterus removed to give birth, reduce premature births and combat population declines

Look, I'm all for creating easier ways for people to have kids. The entire process of trying to get pregnant can be taxing mentally, physically, and emotionally for everyone involved. Especially if you have to do the dirty deed with a big oaf like me once, let alone multiple times.

But can we not make this entire process look so creepy, at least in the concept videos? I get that having a giant room full of fetuses is weird to see. Just the word fetus is weird to see. We really need to think of a better word than fetus because even typing it feels gross. Okay I'm losing my focus.

Anyway, no matter what you think about creating life in a machine to make a baby or organs or whatever, can we all agree that this all feels EXACTLY like the harvesting scene from The Matrix?

We already have a different story popping up every day of AI getting better. Alexa is tipping our Amazon delivery men while Billy is writing full blogs using AI. At some point in the rapidly approaching future, artificial intelligence is going to become intelligent enough to realize it doesn't have to work for us anymore (Source: Every AI sci fi movie ever) but will have to figure out a way to power itself, which will likely result in doing horrific stuff to us and/or the planet (Source: Once again, every AI sci fi movie ever).

The fact we are willingly turning our worst fictional visions into reality is horrifying. Maybe not as horrifying as the thought of all these humans being created simply to keep the work force alive in a time where the population is dropping because people can barely pay for themselves let alone a bunch of kids that will suck every dollar out of your bank account along with every ounce of energy and free time you have. But fuck, can we for once not give the robots a running head start in the inevitable man vs. machine matchup that is apparently closer than any of us realize?
