Unclear What The Hell Clemson Was Thinking On This Punt Return Trick Play That Ended In A Fumble

When you run a fumblerooski-style trick play that then results in a lost fumble, you know you fucked up pretty hard. That's what Clemson did here. Fresh off notching a safety to take a 16-7 lead, the Tigers had all the momentum against South Carolina, and humbled Spencer Rattler early with a pick-six. Why they felt the need to get cute here is beyond me and many other baffled viewers across the country.

This is where the bottom-line outcome overshadows what seemed to be a well-intentioned, mostly well-executed play by Clemson to strengthen their grip on the momentum. In all honesty, the play was looking pretty good until the very end. But the fumble was so bad, it's almost like the dude was trying to forward-lateral that shit.

Really no need for this here, Clemson. And the football gods frowned upon ye by letting the Gamecocks into the end zone four plays later. Thankfully for the Tigers, they wrested back the big mo' in the Palmetto Bowl as DJ Uiagalelei hit Beaux Collins for a 59-yard gain to set up another TD, making the score 23-14 Clemson.

I don't care what happens the rest of the way. The trick play return might already be my favorite play of rivalry week for the sheer comedic value of it all.
