Try-Hard, Wannabe Football Guy James Franklin Did 15 Push-Ups On The Sideline After Getting A Personal Foul

Cringe.

James Franklin is a really good football coach. I'd argue getting Vanderbilt back-to-back nine-win seasons is the most impressive thing any coach in the country has done this century. But you don't need to do this.

This is such a "pick me" move. A high school coach doing sideline push-ups after getting a penalty could possibly be a Football Guy move — there's nothing wrong with a little accountability. But doing it on national television when you know there's a camera on you at all times at least makes it look like you just want attention.

And what kind of punishment is 15 push-ups for a personal foul, anyway? I get that it's supposed to be one push-up per yard I guess, but that is not commensurate with the impact of a 15-yard penalty. I guarantee you Penn State players who get personal fouls in a game do a bit more than a handful of push-ups in practice the following Monday.

Whatever. If this makes Franklin feel like he's atoned for his mistake, more power to him. But it's the antithesis of a Football Guy move.
