Neigh: Colts Fire Head Coach Frank Reich

Neigh,

I can't say I am overly surprised by this. After losing 26-3 to an average New England Patriots team, I came to the realization that the Colts might be the worst team in the National Football League. At least bottom 5. I wrote about this yesterday, but over 80% of the general public thinks were going to lose to the 2-6 Raiders next week.

If that doesn't signal time to make a change, then I don't know what does.

Reich had clearly been losing his touch a bit lately but I really liked him as a coach for a while. Going into this season I still had high hopes for him and certainly did not expect him to be on the hot seat halfway through the season. But he was doing things like throwing the ball with Matt Ryan 60+ times a game, refusing to run the ball with anyone other than Jonathan Taylor (who ended up getting injured), and he definitely didn't look like he was going to figure out a way to win with Sam Ehlinger.

I'm pretty neutral about this as a Colts fan. Personally, I would have been fine riding out Frank Reich for the rest of this year and hopefully ending up with a top 5 draft pick. But I suppose it's good to get rid of him mid-season, so we can get a head start on finding a permanent replacement.

Luckily, I have some good news for Colts fans. And I'm not talking about the "good news" nonsense I wrote about yesterday. I'm talking about genuinely, fantastic news.

First off, any time Jim Irsay address the media it's a good day. You never know what you're going to get from him. That's something even non-Colts fans can look forward to.

But most importantly, I looks like we might get an interim coach named Bubba! Bubba Ventrone no less! What a name. That's pretty fun! The name Bubba Ventrone has interim football coach written all over it. If your name is Bubba, the only jobs you can have are in professional sports, or as a laborer (construction, plumbing, electrician, etc.)

I can't say I know a lot about Bubba Ventrone, other than he's our Special Teams Coordinator. I'm not sure if you can actually hire a Bubba to be the permanent head coach of your football team. We might end up in a situation where Bubba turns this ship around, then we have to make a decision on whether or not to keep this under qualified head coach who everyone seems to love, or try our luck with someone more experienced. We'll burn that bridge when we get there, but for now, let's hope the Colts do indeed name Bubba Ventrone our interim head coach, so we can have something fun to cheer for the remainder of the season.
