Gus Johnson Is One Of Two People Who Are Allowed To Watch Their Own Calls Without Headphones On Public Transportation

I will not be angry about Gus Johnson not using headphones on public transportation. That would be mean because he's Gus Johnson. My only complaint is it's football clips and not basketball. In my mind Gus will always be a basketball announcer. I can't help it. It doesn't matter how many times I see him calling a Big Noon game on FOX, he's a voice of basketball.

I'm also a Gus Johnson fan. I don't get the hate he's starting to get for getting excited about plays. I enjoy it. I will always get a smile when I hear 'rise and fire' or his chuckle after a big play. The man is made for big time moments. It's why he's 1 of 2 people in the world who can get away with this move. The other person is a no-brainer.

The Governor!

Now we need to address the situation here. It's not uncommon for announcers to watch their own calls. It's called practice. It's called scouting. You have to realize if you nailed a call or what to work on. Perfect the craft so whenever we all wise up we can have Gus back in the NCAA Tournament. This is called dedication to do it on public transportation like this. Maybe he's crowdsourcing? Maybe he wants feedback from the guy in the Barstool shirt a few seats down.

I'm not going to pretend I'm an expert on public transportation. My daily commute is from my bed upstairs to the recliner in my office. Maybe a pitstop on the couch or the island for breakfast. I know rule No. 1 is use headphones. However, this is different. I love listening to calls. I'll toss on the best of Gus or Raft from time to time to remember the good days. Maybe mix it up and throw on a Keith Jackson even.

Oh and it's not lost on me that it's weird to videotape Gus here. Let the man live. Let the man work. There will be no Gus slander from me.
