Brent Venables's INSANE Contract At Oklahoma Is Fully Guaranteed And Includes A Bonus For Winning 7 Games

Tulsa World — Oklahoma coach Brent Venables’ performance bonuses include a trigger for winning seven regular-season football games and playing in a bowl game, according to his contract of employment released to the Tulsa World late Friday afternoon.

The document was released via an open records request to the university.

Venables has several performance bonuses on top of his $7 million guaranteed income, including a $25,000 payment if the Sooners play in a non-College Football Playoff bowl and claim seven regular-season victories.

I hope Brent Venables takes care of his agent at Christmas, because that man got him one of the best contracts in sports.

Venables's deal at Oklahoma — worth $43.5 million over six years — is fully guaranteed, meaning OU would owe him the full amount remaining if it fires him without cause at any point. Venables also receives a $25,000 bonus if the Sooners win seven games in any year of the contract, which would be Oklahoma's worst season this century.

There will eventually come a contract bad enough that schools will finally stop giving out these insane deals, but I don't think that's happening anytime soon. Texas A&M actually having to fire Jimbo Fisher and give him $85 million could possibly do it, but other than that, coaches will keep getting seven-win bonuses and their entire remaining contract upon getting fired.
