Dave Portnoy Just Fired Me Over Text

Please note: this pic is not a short jab, I'm 6'3". Dave is slightly above average height for an American man.

Unfortunately, my time working with Dave is over. The people have gotten what they wanted. Dave fired me over text today.

As the Commissioner of The Show fantasy league that Dave had joined with the stars of the MLB and being an inexperienced season long fantasy player himself, Dave would run certain ideas by me. I would also be his sounding board/punching bag when he was frustrated with his team on Sundays.

Dave went off of my cheat sheet (that corresponded with my rankings that were publicly available at the time) and would stick it to me when things didn't necessarily go as planned. For example, Breece Hall not starting Week 1. Or CeeDee Lamb having a bad game. His Draft was very strong at the top, but depth has been an issue as well as performance at the Quarterback position.

A big sticking point has been Tom Brady. Brady was drafted in the 8th round, which started a run on Quarterbacks with Joe Burrow and Russell Wilson going in the next four picks. In a 6-point passing TD league, Brady was my QB3, so the value was there in my eyes. Dave regretted that pick immediately as he was concerned the rumors about his personal life would affect his play. So much so that he actually benched him to start the year for guys like Matt Ryan and Kirk Cousins. Based on the Bucs schedule (at Dallas, at New Orleans, vs. Green Bay) to open the year, that was actually the prudent move and it paid off. Dave started the year 4-0.

Most moves, Dave will at least run by me and I was very proud of a tidbit I dropped the other week when he solicited my advice. I recommended him to check out Colts WR Alec Pierce on October 6th, just hours before he got onto the national radar with a 8 catch 81 yard performance on Thursday Night Football. He was on Dave's squad the next week and having bet on his prop this past week, I was watching Pierce very closely. He finished with 3 catches on 7 targets for 49 yards and 1 TD to hit his over prop, but it wouldn't look like much to the naked eye. But I saw that he also got 3 deep balls that were either defensive pass interference or could've drawn a flag, so I am still very high on him and think he'd make a good FLEX/WR3.

Dave knew I was a big fan of the Pierce addition and he was in position to start this week for Dave's team who has Stefon Diggs on a bye. But Dave picked up Pats WR Devante Parker and put him in the lineup, which is fine, it's his team. I was just surprised by the move and would've advised he just bench him, not drop him. Dave's team has dropped the last two games and tensions are high.

A message about the Pierce drop led more finger pointing on both ends. The Tom Brady issue got brought up again which made me pull a jab with Dave, which looking back now, may have been an overstep. As a result, I have been fired from giving him fantasy advice.
