BROADCASTER TRADE?! With Aaron Judge's Record On The Line, There Are Discussions Of Moving Michael Kay To Apple TV+ For Friday's Red Sox-Yankees Game

And this is a big one because in case you haven't heard, Aaron Judge is very close to making history. The Yankees slugger currently stands at 60 home runs this season, just one shy of tying the 61 that Roger Maris hit in 1961 (an American League record). The game is set to be broadcasted on a new platform that debuted earlier this season, Apple TV+. And as Hubbs wrote about earlier this week, that won't be changing:
But as you can see above, Andrew Marchand of the New York Post is now reporting that there are talks of a broadcaster TRADE so that Michael Kay, the TV voice of the Yankees, can be on the call for Friday's game, just in case Judge hits home run No. 61 or 62…because it should probably be him and not the booth that Apple trots out there.
It will be interesting to see how this story plays out over the next 24 hours, but you have to figure that the Yankees organization is going to do everything they can to get a Yankee broadcaster involved in the call for what will be the biggest moment of the season for Judge and the Bronx Bombers. And Apple should do it because anyone who cares about baseball knows their crew won't do this moment justice if it were to happen.
Keep in mind that with the Red Sox in town this weekend, the national networks already want to be involved, record or no record. FOX has the game tonight, Apple TV+ has the rights to Friday, and ESPN will be broadcasting Sunday Night Baseball. Will this very rare broadcasting trade happen? We shall see…
